While Washing Dishes

Ok, so lately I have been washing dishes by hand, and I have realized how much it can do for the family. I wanted to do a little post on " While Washing Dishes "....

While washing dishes I like to think about my day!!

While washing dishes it gives me an opportunity to talk, laugh, and hang out with Gage!!

While washing dishes it teaches my daughters how to become a good keeper of the home!!

While washing dishes I can homeschool!!

While washing dishes my children and I play the whistling game!!

While washing dishes the children and I sing, while Daddy and the little ones dance!!

While washing dishes it gives me a chance to be a blessing and a good testimony to my children!!

While washing dishes I get to hear what is on Gages mind!!

While washing dishes I can Pray, Sing, and just talk to the Lord.

I remember when I use to get so disgusted when my dishwasher went out..... but now that the kids are older, I am enjoying it so much that I am still washing dishes by hand and the dishwasher is working just fine.

Tonight, after supper the 2 older children and I were working together and doing after supper clean up. While I was washing, Gage was drying and putting away. I realized just how wonderful that this little thing that I use to dislike so much, has become such a blessing, and fun time for my family.

There was nothing better than whistling a song to see which family member can guess the right tune!!

My challenge to you before you go to put that dish in the dishwasher, grab a child and spend some time with them, play a game, or just ask them what is on their mind. If you don't have any children, take a moment and spend that time with God, Pray, sing, or talk to him like he is your best friend standing right next to you. I know that washing dishes has become a blessing to the Stroupe home!!

We remodeled our kitchen last fall and EVERYONE was confused as to why I didn't have a dishwasher installed.
My reasoning ...
I wanted the extra storage space;
When I need a few minutes alone, I can always find it at the kitchen sink;
If I'm having a stressful day, the Lord is right there ready to listen;
By the time I rinse or pre-wash the dishes for the dishwasher, I Hand washing uses less electricity and water;
Hand washing reminds me to stop racing through life, the kiddos grow up too fast and I want to embrace these years while I have them;
I could continue to list many more reasons, but I think everyone has come to the conclusion that I agree with you that hand washing dishes is a blessing, not a chore.

Jamie,

I don't have a recipe for bar soap that I have tried. I am sorry about that, but...I am looking into it and as soon as I find one that is economical I will try it and let you know the results & recipe.

Thank you so much for asking though. I hope to be of more help on this in the very near future.

I completely agree with you and Mrs. B, although it may not be a "pretty" task, it does provide satisfaction and reflection time. I especially love to stare out the window into the garden as I wash dishes. It reminds me of so many beautiful blessings that the LORD has bestowed upon us.

Jamie~

I found both the Borax and Washing soda at Kroger, HEB, Target and a local grocery store. I know I have seen them at Walmart but haven't looked in awhile there so I am not sure if all stores carry it or not. I hope this helps some.

Wow...that's so true! I used to HATE doing dishes with a passion (partly just because growing up with 9 siblings there's a lot of dishes) but, lately, they have really become like you said, a time to think, or talk to God, and it's really a blessing!!! :)

I know exactly what you mean. I got rid of my dishwasher a year ago for this very reason. Now we pair up and talk, laugh and play while doing dishes. It gives us a time to talk about things, if needed. I have 5 kids too and we enjoy this time together, just washing dishes. A woman told me recently that people are getting viruses and stuff more because they are NOT washing dishes as much as people used to. So I told my kids that was one more reason to do it! It can't hurt you TO wash dishes, but is just might hurt you not to.

What a sweet post :) I have recently discovered the joys of hanging my laundry out to dry (instead of using the dryer) and I think the benefits are similar to hand washing dishes. Sometimes the simpler ways are just better.
